Sarah Kelly, Midwife
My name is Sarah and I am a mother of five and a midwife that serves families here in the Twin Cities. I began my journey as a birth doula shortly after the birth of my first daughter in 2000. I trained to be a doula 3 months after the birth of my first baby and not long after, I started my path to midwifery! I apprenticed with a local traditional midwife here in the twin cities and sat for my NARM exam in 2010. I have been practicing midwifery for 15 years now and have worked in the birth world for 25 years! Four of my five babies were born at home, including my twins. I believe in the informed choice and informed consent that homebirth can provide for families. I nursed all five of my children, ranging from a short four months with my first, to three years with some. I think that breastfeeding is an amazing experience and I am ready to support that relationship with every family chooses it!I have had a heart calling to support families as they navigate the growth of their families from the moment I had my first baby. Being a midwife and a mother is what I was put on earth to do.
Hayley Duke, Midwife
Hi! I’m Hayley. I am a mother and traditional midwife. My path to midwifery began with the birth of my first baby in 2014. During my pregnancy it became apparent that my OB did not trust my body to birth my baby the way I had intended. I was 17 and came from a family that believed “doctor knows best” but something just didn’t feel right to me. Being the millennial that I am, I started googling. After hours of research I discovered homebirth and never looked back. I had a beautiful homebirth and knew right away that I needed to help other families feel empowered and supported during their childbearing years. I took an extensive doula training and have been serving families ever since. I met Sarah later in 2014 when I was pregnant with my second baby. I expressed deep interest in midwifery and soon began attending prenatal visits with them as a midwife’s apprentice. I have learned so much from them and the wonderful families I have been so lucky to support. Over the years I have spent time working and learning from other traditional midwives, certified professional midwives, MDs, certified nurse midwives and most recently I have been learning from highly skilled bodyworkers with a focus on pregnancy and babies.
Rachele Brown, Apprentice
Hello, my name is Rachele (sounds like Rachel).
My calling to serve families through birth work began like many other doulas- through the birth of my own children. The monumental experiences of each of them granted me acute awareness of the sheer power women possess to bring their children into this world with dignity intact. Inspired by my own doula and a passionate desire to help women achieve their own healing births, I began consciously creating a sisterhood of women who hold similar birth and family values in 2021. By the end of the year, I'd made the choice for internship over certification and joined Jen at Sacred Space Birth Services. I spent the following year attending a wide array of births, including home, birth center, and hospital births with varying circumstances and opportunities to learn with each attendance. I also trained in the art of placenta keepsakes and encapsulation. As an intern I was provided with opportunities to truly watch and learn from a like-minded doula, to witness firsthand the sacredness of the birthing space, and how to come alongside of families to offer wholistic support so that they may achieve the most fulfilling birth experience possible. The gracious mothers and families that allowed me the chance to grow my knowledge through experience, combined with the not so common choice to intern, have left me with a well-rounded skill set and unique upper hand as I began work within my own practice.
